Denham Village Infant School - Success for All

Healthy Schools

WELCOME
Denham Village Infant School achieved National Healthy School status in 2007 and we are committed to healthier living and learning. New initiatives are being put in place all the time. The most recent ones are re-launching our Healthy Lunchboxes and encouraging children to enjoy different sports. We have also drawn up a School Travel Plan in order to help all children get to school in a safe and healthy way, achieving a Level 3 award in 2010. Encouraging car sharing is our next step in this direction and we desperately need interested parents to help out in the planning and execution of this. We have all the relevant information to hand but just need some willing help!
We celebrate the children's success each week in Fantastic Friday when children who have achieved in a significant way are awarded personalised certificates which they take home at the end of the day. Mrs Ayris produces these spectacularly attractive certificates anew each week.
We have made much progress over the past few years towards making school a healthier place for pupils and staff. The children benefit from a fresh fruit or vegetable snack each day during morning play. Fresh water is also available in the classrooms - but we need parents to ensure the bottles are filled and brought to school each day.

Healthy Lunchboxes
The children are as ever encouraged to include fresh fruit and veg in their lunches and we are trying to

limit crisps and chocolate biscuits to an occasional treat rather than a daily occurrence. This term we

will be particularly encouraging an awareness of the fat and sugar content of food and the undesirability

of having too much of these. Please visit the links page of the website for lots of healthy lunchbox ideas.
