Welcome to Denham Village Infant School

Year 1 at Work (Spring Term)

Year 1 have a very exciting term ahead. We are

starting our Literacy work with poems about our

senses before going on to look at traditional

fairy tales and fantasy stories. We have also been

exploring dictionaries and learning about

instructions. On Pancake Day we will follow

some special instructions for making pancakes –

and will need no instruction to eat the results!

After half term we learn about stories with familiar

settings and information text before rounding off

with poetry pattern and rhyme.

In Numeracy we will continue learning about

numbers, extending our range to 100 and even

beyond! while also finding out about weighing,

direction, 3D shapes and time – both analogue

and digital. Counting in 10s will keep us busy too.
In Science we are learning about Materials and

now know that everything is made of something.

After half term we will be exploring Pushes and

Pulls.

We are learning about Dinosaurs in History and

thinking about how we can make our local area

safer in Geography. We have used many kinds

of different materials in Art and have created some

beautiful work.
In Music we are learning about Pulse and Beat.

We enjoy listening to different kinds of music

and are rather good singers too!

We have made a lovely model village in technology

and still have plenty of energy left over for Music

and Movement, games and apparatus.

In ICT we are learning about Information in its many forms and after half term will use our skills to help us label and classify things.

All in all a very busy and exciting time! We hope to show you more of our work as the term progresses – so watch this space!!
